About the teachers: Eric learned swing dance from his mother in the kitchen when he was 13 and It’s been one of his favorite skills ever since. He initially moved to Sioux Center from Renton, WA to attend Dordt ('13-17) and is a design engineer at 3D Engineered Solutions in Hull. As well as swing dance, he enjoys juggling, gymnastics, and community theatre.

Courtney is a local professional photographer for Aesthetic Essence Photography and a bookkeeper for her husband’s business, One Sixteen Carpentry. She has been dancing for eighteen years and swing dancing for five of them! She began at Robin’s School of Dance in the third grade, was captain of her dance team at Western Christian and has never stopped dancing! She learned how to Swing Dance at Dordt College.

Our goal is to give new and intermediate dancers confidence, foundational methods and skill set to be comfortable swing dancing in any social environment. At the end of the day, our goal is to get you comfortable and having fun. We will be instructing the class in a basic single step, helping students learn to lead and follow well and teaching a variety of moves including but not limited to turns, tricks and dips!

Each week will consist of warm ups, a review from the previous week, a new move lesson, fun games, technical skill development and free time to dance and socialize!

Free dance: Each class is an hour long lesson with a half hour free time to practice dancing to music and asking any questions that don’t apply to all dancers. This free time overlaps: the last half hour of the beginner class will overlap with the first half hour of the intermediate class.

What to wear: Dancing is moderate physical activity, so wear clothing that you can move comfortably in. It can be fun to dress up, but you should choose comfort and range of motion if it comes to it. If you have special dance shoes, definitely bring them. If not, which is understandable, we generally wear socks which are good for spinning!  But you’re welcome to wear street shoes as well.

What to bring: You may want to bring a refillable water bottle, and any questions on previous lessons.
