Basketball Program - Boys and Girls

Siouxland Sports Academy Basketball Camp
Sioux Center Recreation and Siouxland Sports Academy are teaming up to offer 3rd - 8th grade girls and boys a basketball camp. Registration Form (PDF) is available. Spanish Registration Form (PDF)
Riptide Wrestling
The Riptide Wrestling gives youth in the community the opportunity to participate in an organized and competitive sport. More info
Youth Soccer - Boys & Girls
This six week program begins mid April-late May. Kindergarten through 6th grade boys and girls are encouraged to register. Skills are taught and games are played twice a week. Parent and Child Lessons
These lessons are geared 2-5 year olds accompanied by an adult. The purpose of the course is to develop a high comfort level in the water while at the same time training parents water safety. Each child must have an adult in the water with them. These lessons are offered in February-April. Register Here.
Preschool Lessons
These lessons are geared 4-6 year year olds. These lessons will follow the American Red Cross swimming lessons program. Students will be in groups of 4 with an instructor. These lessons are offered in March/April. Register Here.
Kindergarten and First grade lessons
These lessons are for students who are currently in Kindergarten and First grade. These lessons will follow the American Red Cross swimming lessons program. Students will be in groups of 6 with an instructor. These lessons are offered in March/April. Register Here.
Titans Youth Football (Tackle)
The Sioux Center Titans Youth Football is for all Sioux Center students in 5th and 6th grade. This program provides kids with an opportunity to learn the fundamentals of tackle football, including football skills, plays, and teamwork. The teams are formed according to grade level; 5th / 6th graders play together. The Titans are a part of a small league, so they play teams from other towns including Akron, Orange City, West Sioux, and Le Mars Gehlen. Flag Football
The Sioux Center Recreation Department will be running a flag football instructional league this fall in partnership with Dordt University Football players and Coach Penner. Players will be taught fundamental skills as well as playing in games. Dordt University players will be coaching the teams. This is for students entering 1st, 2nd, 3rd & 4th grade this coming year. Registration forms available for 1st/2nd grade & 3rd/4th grade.

Volleyball 5th & 6th Grade Girls
Clinic and league are held at the Kinsey Elementary gym on Mondays after school mid September through October. This is a six week program designed to teach fundamental volleyball skills and play in league games.

Turkey Shoot
This is a child - parent/guardian basketball shooting contest. This program is offered for students between K-8th grade. The contest is held in the first two weeks of November at the Sioux Center High School gym. Both parent and child will each take shots from 10 spots on the court

Sioux Center Ninja Warrior
This is a fun kids obstacle course that will take place at the American State Bank Sports Complex (Dome). This event is free and is sponsored by Sioux Center Recreation Department, Snap Fitness and American State Bank Sports Complex.

K-BALL
This five-week program is for boys and girls just completing Kindergarten. Games will be played June and early July. Schedules will be handed out in the schools. Cost is $25 which includes a t-shirt. Live Healthy Iowa Track Meet (formerly Hershey’s Track Meet)
A one day event held in early May for boys and girls ages 7-14 (as of Dec. 31 of the current year). This event is free and is held at the Open Space Park Track. Each child is eligible to participate in 3 events plus the 4x100 relay.

Archery & Air Rifle
Introduction to archery class for 5th-12th grade boys and girls at Sandy Hollow. Equipment is generously provided by Sioux County Conservation Board. Cost is $25.00 which includes a t-shirt.
Cheerleading Camp
Cheerleading camp for children who have completed Kindergarten-6th grade held at the All Seasons Center. Cost is $20, which includes a t-shirt.
Fishing
Introduction to fishing for boys and girls 1st-8th grade on one night from 6:30-8:30 pm. 1st-4th grade participants MUST be accompanied by an adult. Bring your own pole or we can provide one. Cost is $5.

Nature Days
Program led by Sunday Ford, Sioux County Conservation Assistant Director/Naturalist. Cost is $10.00 which includes a t-shirt.
Pickleball
This week long program is for 3rd - 8th grade boys and girls. Rackets will be provided. Class size limited to 16. Cost: $15.
Summer Swim Lessons
Red Cross swimming lessons will be held for children who have at minimum completed Kindergarten. All sessions are held at the All Seasons Center. Watch the Sioux Center News for lesson schedules. If a child misses more than two classes they will be disqualified from passing that level.
Level 1: Orientation to water for children who are uncomfortable putting their face in the water. Also for the child who cannot float without support on their back or front.
Level 2: Building on Basic Skills – Prerequisite: Child will put their face in the water and blow bubbles. Child is comfortable lying on their back or front with support.
Level 3: Achieve Basic Water Competency – Prerequisite: Child has successfully passed level 2, or can front float for 10 seconds and back float for 15 seconds without support. Child is able to swim on front and back without support for 8 yards.
Level 4: Improve Proficiency and Learning All 6 Strokes – Prerequisite: Child has successfully passed level 3, or can front and back float for 30 seconds, swim front crawl, and elementary back stroke for 15 yards, and complete a kneeling head first entry in the deep end.
Level 5: Refining All 6 Swimming Strokes – Prerequisite: Child has successfully passed level 4; or can swim front crawl and elementary back crawl 25 yards and Breast stroke, Butterfly, Back stroke and Side stroke 15 yards.
Level 6: Refine Strokes and Introduce Self-Rescue Techniques—Prerequisite: Child has successfully passed level 5; or can swim front crawl and elementary back stroke 50 yards, tread water for 5 minutes and swim Breast stroke, Butterfly, Back Crawl, and Side stroke for 25 yards.
Tennis Lessons
This two week summer program is for 3rd-8th grade boys and girls, beginner and intermediate classes at the Open Space tennis courts. Participants must supply their own rackets. Tennis balls will be provided. Instructor is Lavonne Bolkema (712) 722-2843. Class size is limited to eight in each group.
Give It A Try-Athlon
Give It a TRY- athlon is a one day event for children 5-13 years of age, usually in early August. 5-7 year olds will swim 25 yards (life jackets will be allowed for this age bracket), bike 500 meters and run 100 meters. 8-10 year olds will swim 50 yards, bike 1.25 miles and run 1 lap around the track. 11-13 year olds will swim 100 yards, bike 2.5 miles and run 2 laps around the track. Participants must provide their own bike, helmet and running shoes. Parent volunteers are encouraged for this program. Cost is $10.00 which includes a t-shirt, snack and water.
Junior Lifeguard
This program helps build a foundation of knowledge, attitudes, and skills for future lifeguards. In this program students will have instruction in water safety, swimming, first aid, rescue techniques, and CPR. This program is for 11-14 year olds. The Arena Basketball Satellite Camp
Players will work on ballhandling, offensive moves, and finishing at the basket. Program will be led by instructors from The Arena Basketball Academy. Sessions will be held at Sioux Center Middle School Gym. **Location and dates may be subject to change**
3rd-5th Boys & Girls – 9:00-10:30 am. 6th-8th Boys & Girls – 10:30-12:00 pm
Kids Zumba
Kids 7-11 years old get the chance to be active and jam out to their favorite music. Zumba Kids classes feature kid-friendly routines based on original Zumba Choreography. We break down the steps, add games, activities and cultural exploration elements into the class structure.
Blastball
Blastball is simplified co-rec version of baseball for boys and girls, ages PreK, TK & Jr. Kindergarten. Blastball players use a plastic bat and a foam ball. Players don’t need fielding gloves or batting helmets. The program is sponsored by the Sioux Center Recreation Department and Perspective Insurance.
