Kaitlyn Morley is stepping into the role of Sioux Center’s new part-time Theatre Production Manager. She will oversee community theatre and the logistics that go into bringing local productions to the stage.
“I’m excited to continue bringing great theatre for people in Sioux Center and beyond,” Morley said. “I love theatre. It’s my passion. Telling stories in a live format is so engaging. I love the design aspect too.”
A local resident and Dordt University graduate, Morley has worked with nearly all of Sioux Center’s community theatre productions since 2018 and earlier served as Sioux Center Arts Director for 1½ years.
“Kaitlyn's prior service as Arts Director and being a part of our Summer Celebration plays for a number of years makes her a perfect fit for the Theater Production Manager position,” said Sioux Center Recreation Director Doug Mosher. ‘Her passion and experience in theater will be a great asset to the City and our theater community.”
“I’m excited that this role allows me to focus in on the areas I enjoy and love,” said Morley, who holds degrees in technical theatre and design, drama ministry, and graphic design. “I have ideas to help grow local theatre in the next years and expand our programming.”
Morley said the best part about being part of local theatre productions is the people, whether they are veterans to the stage or first-time performers or volunteers.
“We become a family. The best part is the memories we make,” she said. “We are not a professional theatre, but we bring a professional level of work to our performances. And we keep the drama on the stage.”
In her free time, Morley enjoys time with her husband, Ben, and cat, Fynn. She also runs her own graphic design business, Seeds of Juniper.
Morley’s office will be inside the Children’s Park shelter, alongside Sioux Center Arts Director Cailan Matthews. Morley encourages anyone interested in theatre to contact her at theaterdirector@siouxcenter.org.
“There is a place for you. We will find what fits your interest, whether it is on stage, costuming, back stage, or working on lighting or the set,” she said. “I love that with every production we get to meet new people – and give them the opportunity to try something new and fall in love with theatre.”
