Public Invited to Hearing for Proposed Levy

Aerial photo of community

The City Council will conduct a public hearing on the proposed Fiscal Year City property tax levy on Feb. 20, 2023, at 4 p.m., at the City Office council room.

At the public hearing any resident or taxpayer may present objections to, or arguments in favor of the proposed tax levy. After adoption of the proposed tax levy, the Council will publish notice and hold a hearing on the proposed city budget.

This document shows the change in valuation and the proposed tax levy, which is labeled "Budget Year Proposed Maximum Property Tax." The chart also shows the rate that would be assessed for these levies if the dollars requested would not changed in the coming budget year. This is labeled "Budget Year Effective Property Tax."

In Sioux Center, a significant portion of the increase in taxable valuation is due to new construction. The City of Sioux Center budget will increase to reflect and serve that new growth. The increased revenue will be used to fund continued parks and trails improvements, library services, arts and recreation opportunities, snow removal, and police, fire and ambulance services.
