A building just south of Central Park has been rezoned to help prepare for a new home-based daycare.
The City Council approved rezoning City-owned property at 419 1st Ave. NE from general commercial to multi-family residential as part of an ongoing collaborative project focused on adding to daycare options in Sioux Center.
In early 2022, the City of Sioux Center received an $88,000 grant from the State of Iowa Future Ready Program for the development and renovation of a space to provide in-home childcare services. The proposal includes refurbishing the building at 419 1st Ave. NE and setting it up as a daycare offering between 10 and 16 childcare slots.
While the City will renovate and make the building available, the daycare will be operated privately.
“This building is receiving updates to flooring and painting, taking place over the next month,” said Sioux Center Development Director Dennis Dokter.
This project is a collaborative effort by Sioux Center’s Daycare Task Force. The group includes business, Chamber, Sioux Center Health/Early Childhood Center, and City leaders who are invested in finding solutions to local childcare needs.
