Electric Department Head Completes Leadership Course

Two men hold framed certificate

Ezra Weikert, electric department head at Sioux Center Municipal Utilities, recently earned his leadership certification as part of the LEAD Course, a workshop presented by Missouri River Energy Services. LEAD stands for Leadership, Excellence and Development.

“Our congratulations to Ezra,” said Sioux Center Utilities Manager Murray Hulstein. “We believe we hire great people, and we know connecting them with opportunities to continue in education and development helps meet our goal of providing the best service for our customers.”

The LEAD Course is a high-level leadership training course focused on the critical skills, awareness and perspective that makes a difference in the success of a leader in the municipal utility industry. To earn the certification, graduates attended four two-day sessions throughout the year with course work that covers communication, collaboration, change, accountability, failing/failure and practicing leadership. Weikert was among 18 utility professionals to earn this certification.

“This course is one more step in bringing leaders to new levels of excellence for themselves and for their local public power utility,” said Tom Heller, president and CEO of Missouri River Energy Services (MRES).

Sioux Center is one of 61 member municipalities of MRES. Each MRES member owns and operates a municipal electric utility in the states of Iowa, Minnesota, North Dakota, and South Dakota. MRES provides members energy and a wide range of energy-related services.
