Dedication Planned for Sculpture Honoring Local Leader

City News Posted on May 27, 2022

All are invited to the dedication of a sculpture honoring Maurice and Vera Te Paske and their vision and service to Sioux Center, set for Friday, June 3, at 10 a.m.

The sculpture, in Sioux Center’s Open Space Park, reflects the idea of “Progress through Cooperation,” and honors the legacy of the former mayor and community advocate who pushed for big-picture thinking for Sioux Center and his wife who worked alongside him.

The location of the sculpture and the dedication ceremony is in the large park that the city purchased and annexed under Maury’s leadership. The sculpture was created by William Lieb, of Spirit Lake, commissioned to portray the idea of “Progress through Cooperation” exemplified by the Te Paskes. Funding for the new sculpture comes from several groups, including the Sioux Center joint use committee, Sioux Center Municipal Utilities, Sioux Center Arts, and energy partner Missouri River Energy Services.

The dedication ceremony will include comments from Mayor David Krahling and sculpture coordinator Willis Alberda, tributes from Sioux Center leader W. Dale Den Herder and Missouri River Energy Services representative Joni Livingston, and additional responses from local entities and the Te Paske family. Refreshments will follow the ceremony.

The sculpture is located just north of Siouxnami Waterpark, near the intersection of 7th Ave. and 11th St. NE, in Open Space Park.
