The Lewis & Clark Rural Water System is a tri-state wholesale water system formed by 20 communities and rural water systems to address their needs in water supply. Lewis & Clark will take water from an aquifer adjacent to the Missouri River just south of Vermillion, SD. The system will treat the water to drinking water standards and pump to members in Northwest Iowa, Southwest Minnesota, and Southeast South Dakota. The project, which began construction in 2003, will begin selling water to connected members in 2012. The entire system is planned to be completed in 2019, depending on receipt of adequate federal funding. For more information on Lewis & Clark visit their website.
