Student smiles

High school seniors: are you planning to attend a college or technical college for studies related to the energy industry?

Sioux Center Municipal Utilities’ energy partner Missouri River Energy Services is offering two scholarship opportunities. Students are eligible to apply if they live or attend school in Sioux Center Municipal Utilities’ service area, or in an area served by one of the other 61 member utilities of MRES.

• The first opportunity is for up to five $1,000 scholarships for 2- or 4-year undergraduate studies at an accredited two- or four-year college, university, or vocational-technical school no later than the fall of 2024. Students planning to pursue studies in engineering, electrical technician, power plant operator, energy management, business management, accounting, communications, economics, and other fields related to the energy industry will be given preference for these scholarships. These awards may be renewed for up to three additional years.

• The second opportunity is for up to seven $2,000 1-year scholarships for Powerline/Lineworker studies at an eligible technical college in the upper Midwest. Eligible technical colleges include the following schools: Northwest Iowa Community College (Sheldon, IA), Bismarck State College (Bismarck, ND); Dakota County Technical College (Rosemount, MN); Minnesota West Community and Technical College (Granite Falls, MN); Minnesota West Community and Technical College (Jackson, MN); Minnesota State Community and Technical College (Wadena, MN); Mitchell Technical College (Mitchell, SD).
