Paving work on B40 is reaching Sioux Center this week, and there will be a number of traffic impacts locally.
See paving map starting Weds., June 28.
Planned paving schedule:
The paving on B40 will reach the eastern access for the Sunrise Trail residential area by Friday, June 23. All of B40 from there to K64 will be closed to traffic, except for residents.
During this paving work, there will be heavy truck traffic on 13th Ave. E. between the fairgrounds and Sioux Center Health corners.
On Friday afternoon, June 23, the county’s contractor, Croell, will bring their paving equipment to the west end of the B40/9th St. SE project, near 7th Ave SE and Kinsey Elementary.
Starting on Friday afternoon, June 23, traffic will have no access through this west end of the project for about one week. During that time, traffic to the hospital/Sioux Center Health, should use the east entrance on B40 or the 13th Ave SE entrance.
On Monday, June 26, Croell will begin paving from near 7th Ave. SE and continue east past the west emergency entrance to Sioux Center Health. This paving will need to cure for a few days.
Then, as soon as Wednesday, June, 28, Croell will pave from just after the west entrance to Sioux Center health and continue through the 13th Ave. E. intersection past the west entrance of Sunrise Trail.
This newly paved area will be completely closed until sometime later in the following week, which is the week of July 4. During this time, traffic to Sioux Center Health should continue to use the 13th Ave. SE entrance. There may be some access from the west on B40 with a temporary rock driveway as well.
“We continue to ask travelers to use the detour whenever possible, as this is a construction area with a lot of people and equipment at work,” Jason Meihost, project manager with Croell, Inc. “We are staying on schedule with our original plan and we’re looking toward early August to wrap this up.”
All paving schedules are subject to change and weather delays.
Sioux County’s 5.5-mile overlay project on county road B-40 stretches from near Kinsey Elementary in Sioux Center to the four-way stop intersection at K-64 north of Orange City. The county project includes resurfacing the aging asphalt with a 6-inch concrete overlay.
