Softball Diamond Named Field of Excellence

The softball diamond in Sioux Center’s Open Space Park athletic complex has been named a 2022 Field of Excellence.

The field was one of 100 nationwide to be recognized. Only two others in Iowa were also honored.

“We are always working to maintain safe and high-quality playing fields here. In this industry, when people take pride in the work they do, others notice,” said Sioux Center Parks Director Lee Van Meeteren. “It’s an honor to be recognized.”

The Field of Excellence honor was announced earlier this week by paint supply company Pioneer Athletics.

“It’s an award they do to recognize customers who are doing it right, creating high-quality fields,” Van Meeteren explained.

Sioux Center’s softball diamond was selected as a Field of Excellence based on Van Meeteren’s application, which highlighted field operations, budgets, staff involvement and the partnership between the City, Dordt University and local schools.
