The City of Sioux Center will join the community in dedicating a new sculpture honoring the leadership and contribution of a pair of difference-makers.
The new sculpture, installed at Sioux Center’s Vernon Park, honors Ross and Velma Vernon and will be dedicated at 10 a.m. on Friday, April 30. All are invited to attend the ceremony.
Entitled “The Word Tower,” the 12-foot-tall aluminum structure reflects the legacy the Vernons created in Sioux Center.
Vernon worked for Mutual Telephone Company for more than 50 years, serving as Executive Vice President and General Manager of the company until 2002 and on the Board of Directors until 2009, a visionary leader.
He also served more than 50 years on the Sioux Center City Council, served in the military, and contributed to many community organizations.
The sculpture is being dedicated by the City as well as Premier Communications and Sioux Center Arts.
Coffee and cookies will follow the dedication. Vernon Park is at 1592 7th AVE SE.
