Council Visits with State Legislators

State legislators visit Council

The Sioux Center City Council spoke with state Sen. Randy Feenstra and Rep. Skyler Wheeler at this week's council meeting about the upcoming legislative session, discussing matters that may have a local impact.

The council and staff thanked the state legislators for their support in directing about $7 million over two years toward the Lewis and Clark Regional Water System. Those dollars, to be split between this past year and the coming year, will bring the system closer to connecting with Sioux Center, which would improve local water supply and quality.

City staff also urged the legislators to support quality of life and economic development initiatives in the state, which help communities like Sioux Center grow.

The legislators thanked the council for hosting them, and Sen. Feenstra told the city council it is refreshing to have multiple levels of government working together.

The upcoming legislative session begins Jan. 8, 2018.
