Sioux Center Municipal Utilities is celebrating its commitment to providing dependable, affordable, efficient energy during Public Power and Public Natural Gas Week Oct. 2-7

Sioux Center Municipal Utilities is a public power and public natural gas utility, owned by the citizens of Sioux Center and run by the Sioux Center City Council.

“We provide power and natural gas to our friends and neighbors, so we truly care about reliable and affordable energy. And we care about having dollars stay right here to benefit our community and do the local economy good,” said Sioux Center Utility Manager Murray Hulstein.

Along with local service, Sioux Center Municipal Utilities offers rebates for money-saving energy efficiency updates through Bright Energy Solutions at www.siouxcenter.org/rebates.

To celebrate Public Power and Natural Gas Week, SCMU is holding a giveaway. People can sign up for paperless utility billing and enter to win a tablet computer or a programmable thermostat. Sign up online at www.siouxcenter.org/power or stop in at the City Office.

“We’re proud to serve the community as a public power and natural gas utility. Join us in celebrating the benefits of having public power and natural gas here in Sioux Center,” Hulstein said.

Sioux Center Municipal Utilities has been a public power utility since 1949 and a public natural gas utility since 1954, serving more than 2,000 local customers. Sioux Center Municipal Utilities is one of more than 2,000 community-owned, not-for-profit power utilities in the U.S.
