New commercial lots are being considered for development in northern Sioux Center.
Sioux Center Land Development shared with the Sioux Center City Council this week that the group is interested in developing additional property for commercial use.
SCLD presented the possibility of purchasing city-owned land north and east of Rent-All Center’s new location for future development.
Dennis Dokter, secretary of SCLD, said there has been both interest from local businesses to expand or move and interest in new business opportunities.
“Sioux Center has seen strong growth in the areas of residential, commercial and retail over the past years. This trend continues, and we see the demand for more commercial property,” Dokter said.
They discussed the possibility of purchasing 25 acres with the idea of creating various lot sizes to meet a variety of needs.
“With the additional requests for commercial lots to be made available, the City of Sioux Center is working with Sioux Center Land Development to help make this happen and allow commercial growth to continue,” said City Manager Scott Wynja.
No decisions were made by the council, but Dokter said this discussion will likely continue at a future council meeting.
Sioux Center Land Development is a private group of several hundred shareholders with the mission of fostering economic growth in the community through industrial, commercial and residential development.
