The Sioux Center City Council approved hiring a firm to help create a master plan for city parks to use for future park improvements.
“It’s about the big picture,” said Parks Director Lee Van Meeteren. “The master plan will help give us direction for the next 2-5 years of what our community’s needs will be and guide the process to meet those needs."
The process will involve taking inventory of what city parks currently offer, evaluate how well they are serving the community, and map the areas parks serve. It will also assess any needs of the park system and gather public input about city parks.
“The development of a park master plan will allow the Park Board to better identify and create priorities for future park expansions and improvements,” City Manager Scott Wynja said. “I am excited about the potential to help identify potential gaps and make sure the City is covering the needs of the community through the public forums that will be held with this process.”
The council voted to hire RDG Planning & Design to help develop the parks master plan, which was recommended to them by the Sioux Center Parks Board.
“It would be our hope to develop the plan this spring with possible implementation of some of the first steps for the 2017-2018 budget year,” Wynja said.
